DJ A-Sides aka The Vagrant aka The Flava Unit aka Jason Cambridge is celebrating 25 freakin’ years in the drum and bass world with his Quart LP series. The Eastside Records owner’s first of five releases that showcase his broad musical influence and background. The releases will feature collaborations with MC Fats, Makoto, and Cool Hand Flex (whoa!) while also providing remixes from Serum, Break, and Voltage.
All the tunes on the EP are quite varied. Fijoa Dub, with the aforementioned MC Fats, is a big bassy steppa that might be considered one of A-Sides’ signature sounds. The other standout for me is Voices (featuring Aletta), because it’s a smooth little funk roller. Whereas Tokaido Revision is a much darker, brooding tune. All the tracks are top notch and worthy of your dollar.
