This is the 700th post on Shadowboxing.org, which is quite the milestone if I do say so myself. Now, I can’t think of a better way to roll over into the 700 club than to share this mix and interview from one of my house music heroes, Roy Davis Jr.
I’m not sure how you can be involved with dance music and not be aware of RDJ’s contributions, but just in case you’ve lived under a rock or are 14 years old, this Chicagoist.com interview lays it all out. I’ve always found it interesting/depressing that an American dance music pioneer is essentially anonymous in their home country, but as Roy points out it’s something of a blessing. With all that said, if you take nothing else away from the interview just process the acknowledgement that he birthed UK Garage with Gabriel. That’s big.
Massive shouts to Toyacoyah for linking the mix and interview earlier this week via Twitter.
