So, what do you know about Boogie? Until yesterday I knew jack shit about it, the music, or what the name even meant. I only know about it now because my friend Elena, who lives in Bristol, turned me onto this “new” sound that’s been driving Bristol mad. She knows I’m deeply into drum & bass and knows that a lot of the Bristol-based producers and DJs that I follow, like DJ Die, are fully into the Boogie music scene.
So what is Boogie? Well the wikipedia page’s definition says that it “combines stylistic features of post-disco with funk, that first emerged in the United States during the late 1970s to mid-1980s. The sound of boogie defined by bridging acoustic and electronic musical instruments with emphasis on vocals and miscellaneous effects…” Based upon that description alone, I’m in!
Elena was even kind enough to send over a link to one of DJ Die’s Laminate Radio shows from last year so I could get a full taste.
Die, Joker, and Futureboogie’s Christophé have also dropped the Sure Thing – Holding You Tight EP with an interesting, 80s-esque styled video to boot.
Now you’re up to speed on Boogie…enjoy!
