It’s been an insane last few weeks around the SB HQ because the wife and I are preparing for the our first kid! I hope to continue posting as often as possible, but I’ll be relying on my cohorts to help me fill in the gaps while I learn to change diapers and not screw up my child’s life. Anyway, with that out of the way…let’s dive into volume 8 of Beats & Pieces.
Break – So True VIP / Watch Out (Enei Remix) – Symmetry Recordings (SYMM12) – Release Date: April 3rd, 2013
Both of these cuts have been caned by all the big DJs for a few months, but they finally get a release on Symmetry in April. ROUGH!
Mise en Place Part 2 – Ingredients Records (RECIPE035) – Release Date: March 18th, 2013
Ingredients’ output continues to be very strong with this four-track EP featuring Dub Phizix, Villem, Break, SKeptical, and dRamatic & dbAudio. Dub Phizix’s tune “Rainy City Music” has been floating around on dub for a long time and it’s my top choice on the EP. The tune is so far afield from his usual output because it’s so melodically melancholy. Break’s rework of Villem’s “Splinter In Your Mind” is at it’s best smashing up a dancefloor. Skeptical offers up a dubby affair with “Blue Eyes” while dRamatic & dbAudio have cranked it up a notch with “No Return.”
SC Remix Vol 1 – Sonic Convergence (SC10) – Release Date: February 18th, 2013 – Beatport Link
Wyrus – Right On Time EP – Sonic Convergence (SC11) – Release Date: April 1st, 2013
Two strong releases from Texas-based techno label Sonic Convergence. SC10 is their first full remix EP featuring reworks of previous Sonic Convergence tunes. Peppelino and Steel Grooves exchange tracks and Wyrus’ “Say What” gets a rework from Domaooj Radas. SC11 sees Sonic Convergence Croatian’s stalwart, Wyrus, drop his “Right On Time” EP featuring “Bang With Me” and the eponymous “Right On Time.”
The Aftermath Compilation – IM:LTD Recordings (IMLTD CD03) – Release Date: March 2013
The Hunted EP – IM:LTD Recordings (IMLTD040) – Release Date: March 4th, 2013
I’m not sure what kind of magic powder they’re working with over at the IM:LTD compound, but I need some of that to increase my productivity! We’re only into February and, by my count, this is their third and fourth compilation/EP release in the last three months! The volume is impressive, but even more than that the tunes aren’t sleepers.
