Thanks to some inspiration by my friend Sean, I’ve decided to knock together my list of the top drum & bass tracks of 2012. This list is totally subjective and might not fit with everyone’s taste, but that’s alright. Here’s to a wonderful year in drum & bass!
DRS feat. Enei – Count To Ten
It was a huge year for DRS. His debut album I Don’t Really Like MCs But… on Soul:R was a big hit and this Enei tune (and the video) are doing it big!
Enei – 2012 (feat. Eastcolors)
It was a big year for Enei and it’s hard to just pick one song from the Machines album, but if you put a gun to my head this one would be on top.
Eleven8 – I Fell Into A Memory
This was only released on Monday on the Changing Colours EP from The Crescent, but I don’t care that it’s brand new. It’s an amazing track and an excellent follow-up to his release on Blu Mar Ten Music earlier this year.
The Upbeats – Undertaker
A free tune that I mentioned a few months ago, it beats the crap out of you straight from the drop!
S.P.Y – Analogue Dreams
This came out on S.P.Y’s debut album What The Future Holds from Hospital Records.
Calyx & Teebee – Elevate This Sound
Elevate This Sound was the second release from the dynamic duo after signing on with Ram Records last year. The flipside, Hurting, was featured at the beginning of Katalyst’s recent “Returns” mix.
8 bits & Q Project – Low End Theory
Blu Mar Ten – Blind Soul feat Stray (BCee Remix)
Who is the best producer that a lot of people don’t know about? That’d be BCee of Spearhead Records. His rework of BMT & Strays “Blind Soul” is the stuff hyperbolic dreams are made of…and the rest of Blu Mar Ten’s Natural History Remixes are pretty boss too!
Rockwell – Childhood Memories
Honestly, I’m not even sure if this counts as drum & bass, but who cares?! It was released on the Childhood Memories EP on Shogun Audio along with the massive Metrik remix. Dat vocal…
Jubei – Say Nothin feat. Flowdan
Dark & brooding Metalheadz business.
Spectrasoul – Away With Me feat. Tamara Blessa (Calibre Remix)
Calibre turns this bouncy house track into a soulful drum & bass boomer while maintaining the proper vibe of the original. It was released, along with several other remixes, on the Away With Me EP.
Submotion Orchestra – All Yours (S.P.Y Remix)
There’s very little wrong with anything S.P.Y does…his rework of this tune from Submotion Orchestra (via via Hospital Records) is fantastic.
Lenzman feat. Riya – How Did I Let U Go
Mmmmmmm! Even more Metalheadz goodness from two folks that create magic together.
BCee feat. Robert Owens – Keep The Faith (Seba Remix)
Robert Owens automatically classes up any release and Seba really nails this remix from Spearhead.
