His most recent episode, A Tribute To The Loft covers a lot of disco-esque beats and early house music along with a cool intro describing those parties at The Loft. It’s a very chunky, mellow vibe and perfect for at-work listening.

Last week I had the pleasure of spinning with the Robotique crew in Philadelphia. We did a special night dedicated to Dave Mancuso‘s Loft parties in NYC. This really meant a lot to me because I was a “Lofter” in the late 80s. We use to trek up to NYC to lose ourselves in the music and an atmosphere which eventually became historic nights. This was the blueprint of my dj career.

First up…Redlight, aka DnB/clownstep producer Clipz, who reinvented himself with a super bass, heavy rave revival sound. To me, it hovers in that gray area between dubstep, breaks, and old skool hardcore.

Rumble profiled him back in November with his tune Feels So Good. This is an older 20 minute promo mix released last year to showcase his new direction as a producer (although I’m sure “Clipz” isn’t done yet).

Next is Germany’s Vera with a really melodic deep house mix. It was released as a promo mix for her appearance at a recent Fabric night in London.

It’s always unusual to hear this kind of music played in the UK, because their version of deep house is very different from our own. It tends to slide more towards trance than the West Coast house we’re familiar with in the States.

Although he’s primarily known for his involvement with the happy hardcore scene, DJ Sy, was the quintessential play-everything-in-his-crate rave DJ back in the day. The Scratchmasters Desire was original released in 1994 as a three tape pack featuring jungle, happy hardcore, and ’89 house retrospective sets.
