Straight up at 0:10 is “Creatin’ rap music ’cause I never dug disco…” Historically attributed to Chuck D of Public Enemy, this line and a host of others throughout Octagon’s tune are actually from a track called “Urban Sound Surgeon” by a rapper named 4-Ever Fresh. Signed to Tommy Boy in the late 1980s, 4-Ever Fresh dropped a few tunes and then split.

I’ve been a fan of The Kickdrums since I first heard their David Axelrod flipping “Just A Game” in 2009. But Fitts & Tilla have been on their grind a lot longer than that and their discography is crazy. They’ve produced for 50 Cent, Chamillionaire, Joell Ortiz, Little Brother, Ray Cash, Ben Harper, and Good Charlotte, to name a handful of their credits.

On Feb 21st, I’m dropping their ‘Something’s Gotta Give” EP on 11 Inch Records. (It includes remixes by Kutcorners, Sammy Bananas, Emynd, Sticky Noodles, Audience, and Skinny Friedman.) But first! It’s time for a look back at some of my favorite of their jams.
